Meet Daphene:
Being a health and wellness advocate is personal to me.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked with infectious and chronic diseases. One thing I’ve noticed that’s very common in my work—rather than in research, outreach, or epidemiology—was how access to food (or lack of it) affected our bodies.
The most staggering observation for me was this: so many professionals who provide nutrition counseling to those most affected lack empathy, cultural sensitivity, and relatability—and often subscribed to the one size fits all approach. I know that approach isn't sustainable long term.
So, in October 2015, I decided to be part of the solution and fulfill a long-time dream of becoming a registered dietitian nutritionist. It was not easy with two children (but it was certainly doable with my village—we all need support). So here I am, ready to be part of your accountability team and share what I’ve learned about food and nutrition.
Once we decide on a realistic and attainable goal for you, we work together to make it a reality. Our focus will be to create simple, sustainable dietary changes that you can maintain for the long run.
I look forward to walking with you on this journey.
